Invest in the well-being of Cortes Island
A donation to the Cortes Island Community Foundation makes meaningful and lasting impacts in areas that are important to you. From arts and culture to research, from education to the environment, donors and funders come to us to help simplify and enhance their charitable giving in the region. We do this by investing in our local social profits, researching the needs and possibilities of our ever-changing community, and supporting continued conversation within and between people and organizations.

Ways to Give
The Cortes Island Community Foundation has teamed up with the Vancouver Foundation, Canada Helps, and local social profits to ensure that our small community foundation has numerous ways to help serve your philanthropic goals while supporting the needs of our local community organizations.

Start a Fund
Starting a Fund requires an initial gift of $1,000 to $20,000 and there are a number of options for helping get you there. It all starts with a conversation to assess your wishes and strategize options.
Leave a Legacy
Any of our funds or charitable giving may be established as part of your longer term estate planning. This can result in significant tax savings and support our community for years to come. Contact us for more information.
Donate Annuities
The Canadian Revenue Agency does not apply capital gains tax on donations of publicly traded securities. (Capital gains are the increase in the value of your securities over the price you paid at purchase.)
When you sell your shares for cash, you are responsible for the tax due on the gain, even if you plan to donate the proceeds. If you pay the tax out of those proceeds, there is less money left to donate. Your preferred charity receives a smaller donation and you have a smaller donation to claim for your charitable tax credit.
But when you donate your securities directly to the Cortes Island Community Foundation, those capital gains aren’t subject to tax. This means the Foundation receives a larger gift and you benefit from a tax receipt for the full value of your eligible securities or equity mutual funds. You can give more and save more!
American Donors
CICF has partnered with the Vancouver Foundation and Friends of Vancouver Foundation which can accept donations on our behalf from American individuals, charities and corporations and issue tax receipts that can be used for American tax filings. Please contact for us for more information and we will be happy to provide the necessary assistance.
